About Suwada Blacksmith Works.
Suwada Blacksmith Works is located in the city of Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture, a place long known as one of the world's leading centres for the production of high-end cutlery. The company's history dates back to 1926, when its founder, Shukusaburo Kobayashi, began making kuikiri, or cutting pliers, for carpenters in response to the increased demand for new housing following the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923.
Since then, Suwada has specialised in particular in cutting pliers that cut an object between a pair of perfectly joined blades, while insisting on a meticulous approach to manufacturing consistency, from the careful selection of raw materials to the application of final touches by hand to finish each product. Although more than one company in the industry has fallen into disuse over the decades, Suwada has not only managed to maintain traditional techniques, but also continued to innovate in the city of Sanjo, where quality materials and skilled craftsmen are in abundance.
Satin finish bottle opener.
Originally designed simply to open bottles, the SUWADA bottle opener goes further: the unique shape minimises the deformation of the cap when opening, and the magnet on the tip keeps it in place.
The result of thinking about how to turn a functional object into an attractive one, this elegant bottle opener can also be used as an interior design object.

What is "Hyakunen Monogatari"?
"Hyakunen Monogatari" is a global brand, the result of a collaboration between the workshops of Niigata Prefecture and NICO (Niigata Industrial Creation Organization).
Since the beginning of the project in 2003, the brand has launched several cutting-edge collections, and the efforts related to the development and promotion of products combining the resources of the prefecture have been recognized both in Japan and abroad as the first of its kind in the region, winning awards such as the Good Design Award and the Asia Design Award.
The concept of the "Hyakunen Monogatari" brand revolves around "objects to create, appreciate and transmit a way of life and culture that we will cherish for another 100 years".
Thus, the project pursues promotional activities in parallel with the manufacture of innovative products, based on "development themes" linked to long-term trends in the global market and focused on communicating the assets of the Niigata region: its technological power and the attractions of its climate and topology.
