Video description
Store in a cool, dark place. Sake does not have a use-by date, but we recommend that it be consumed within one month of purchase to get the most out of its flavours.
This exceptional Hizoshu sake, literally “the treasure of sakes”, owes its name to the water used to make it: “water from the fountain of the gods” which runs deep under the Yoshinogawa house and contributes to the excellence of this Junmai Daiginjo Genshu slowly aged at -5°C.
With its rich aroma, as if the umami of the sake had been condensed, combined with the smooth, delicate and pronounced taste typical of maturation, this sake, which crystallises all the tradition and accumulated know-how of the house of Yoshinogawa, is to be reserved for special occasions. A beverage so renowned that it is currently impossible to obtain it in Japan.
With its minerality, flinty scent and a beautiful evocation of Japan through the smell of koji and daikon radish, this sake has a beautiful texture in the mouth and a roundness that perfects its balance, while the long and noble finish convinces of the remarkable quality that earned it the Gold Medal at Kura Master 2018, in the “Junmai Daiginjo and Junmai Ginjo” category.
Enjoy chilled or at room temperature with grilled beef loin, sautéed chicken wings, salt-grilled chicken or other highly flavoured dishes.
About the Yoshinogawa Brewery
Founded in 1548, Yoshinogawa House is the oldest sake house in Niigata, and the 5th oldest in all of Japan. Based in the Settaya district of the famous brewing town of Nagaoka, Yoshinogawa has been making sake in keeping with the times for more than 470 years, incorporating state-of-the-art technology while maintaining the age-old techniques of sake brewing, and it is no exaggeration to say that this balance has been a key factor in Yoshinogawa’s uninterrupted success over the years.
