Winner of the platinum award at the Paris Kura Master 2021 sake competition, this full-bodied sake is made from 100% Koshitanrei rice, which is grown with fewer pesticides and fertilisers in accordance with Sado City's World Agricultural Heritage System. As the name suggests, this sake is neither filtered ("muroka") nor has water ("genshu") been added, and has aromas of Lectier pear, lychee and melon.
The Obata Brewery
Located on the island of Sado in Niigata Prefecture, Obata Brewery's know-how and the techniques for making its flagship sake, "Manotsuru", have been passed down from generation to generation since its creation in 1892. Obata Brewery is the pride of Sado sake, thanks to the three pillars of "sake-zukuri", as primary as they are elusive: water, rice, and man.
The brewery turned 125 years old in 2017, and Mrs. Obata Rumiko, the head of the brewery, is the only woman at the table of the presidents of the 90 sake producers in Niigata.
